These board courses are recommended for volunteers on the Board Match programme and are offered by the Social Service Institute (SSI). Every volunteer is highly encouraged to attend before he is placed on an NPO board. Though not mandatory, these courses are provided to enhance the volunteer’s appreciation and understanding of his role and duty as a board member in an NPO/VWO. Once the volunteer has been matched to an NPO board, he would have to apply for these courses through his respective NPO/VWO.

Examples of board courses are:

  • Board Roles: Functions & Responsibilities
  • Board Dynamics: Board-ED-Staff Partnership and Board Meetings
  • Understanding the Regulations and Code of Governance for Charities & IPCs
  • Ethical Decision-Making and Conflicts of Interests for NPOs

To find out when they are scheduled, please search Board Members Programmes.

To find out more about the courses and course dates, please click on the course titles above. With the generous support from MCCY, Charities Unit and SSI, volunteers are able to attend the 4 courses pro-bono prior to being placed on NPO boards. Please note that only ‘Classroom Courses in English’ are fully subsidized by MCCY and SSI. Volunteers have to bear the full course fee for non-attendance.
